We have been contacted by the Monroe County Parks Department regarding the start of the Spring Season.

We have been notified that the opening day for field use has been pushed back to Sunday, April 13th at the earliest. This applies to any and all organizations and activities requiring field use within the parks, not just kickball.

The Park Directors and Park Supervisors decision is based on the following areas of concern.

• Due to the extended winter we have had, and the lack of ANY drying out period, all athletic fields are just not ready for use.
• Because of continued snow coverage, there has been zero grass growth.
• As a result of the most recent snowstorm and melting that took place yesterday (Mon, Mar 31st) and today (Tue, Apr 1st), and the forecasted rain for the middle and end of the week, the fields will be extremely wet, soft, and susceptible to long-term damage if they were to be used at this time.
• Finally, the long-range forecast does not include any stretches of consistent warm weather, and actually includes highs in the 40's and lows in the 20's through mid-April.
• With up and down temperatures and snow in the forecast, as well as rain, it is possible that the opening day may need to be pushed back again to April 20th.

After being provided with this information, and in following with Kickball League of Rochester Policies and Rules, we will be taking the following action.

• All games originally meant to be scheduled from April 7th to April 11th, will immediately be rescheduled at the end of the season (normally earmarked for playoffs).
• Playoffs (in some fashion) will now only be held/scheduled on Sat, May 31st.
• There will be no Tournament of Champions taking place on Sat, May 31st, in order to accommodate as many teams as possible (up to the top 16 from each night originally planned for). A reduced number of teams advancing to playoffs may be necessary, however we will continue to investigate a way to fit all or as many playoff games in as possible.
• Any additional days or weeks of postponement caused by unplayable field or playing conditions will be scheduled as a double header where ever possible.
• The Monroe Ave Pub Crawl will be scheduled earlier than usual. It is being pushed up to Saturday, May 17th, to allow additional room for playoffs on the 31st.
• The Spring Captain's meetings date and time will not change. We can and will openly discuss any questions and concerns that you may have regarding this unforeseen change of schedule at the meetings.

Additionally, Summer Registration was originally scheduled for Sun, April 13th. As this date will now be upon us before the Spring Season play is set to begin, and while also recognizing the upcoming date of the Easter holiday, we will be pushing Summer Registration back for two weeks. Summer Registration will now open on Sunday, April 27th. We feel that it would be unfair of us to ask for another deposit from repeat captains without beginning the current season. We also realize some teams are new or may be uncertain of any potential summer team without first experiencing at least some of the spring season. Likewise, this will shorten the length of time that we officially keep Summer registration open as well as the span of time from "Registration Start" to official "Registration End" and when T-Shirt orders would be due. The website has been updated to reflect all of these changes.

We apologize for this inconvenience. We hope that you utilize this week postponement to gather and socialize on your scheduled night of the week at any Social Sponsor that you may have to get better acquainted with your team.
